Charnwood athletes win individual and team medals at the county cross-country championships

A good day’s work for Charnwood AC’s athletes at last Saturday’s (4 January) annual County Cross Country Championships held this year at Burbage Common, taking a total of 5 individual and team titles, along with other podium places, with Tom Gostelow retaining his 2019 title.

In the Under 13 girls race, Florrie Mitchell was the sole representative and claimed a creditable 6th spot from 22 finishers while in the Under 13 boys, Finlay Martin was just out of the medals, taking 4th place from 26.

A third place individual bronze medal for Rachel Newport and a team silver for the Under 15 girls. Rachel was supported by Isabel Oakland in 9th and Gracie-Rose Walters in 14th.
The squad was completed by Amelie McCann in 15th and Amy Blythe 21st.

Another Under 15 individual bronze in the boy’s race for Thomas Dixon with Luke Talbot in 7th and Sean McCann 9th making up the silver medal team.
Jake Blythe in 10th made up the squad.

An excellent silver medal for Lexie McLoughlin in a small Under 17 women’s field, with Gemma Newport taking 4th, with Alex Coleston-Shields the sole runner in the Under 17 men taking 4th.

Another small field for the Under 20 women, but a comfortable victory for Paige Stevenson while in the men’s race Tom Gostelow retained his 2019 title with Kieren Coleman-Smith taking silver.

Individual and team gold for the senior women, with Gemma Steel taking 1st place, supported by Aimee Seager in 5th and Holly Elliott 6th.
In the senior men’s race, Tom Whitmore claimed 6th place.

More success in the Masters category, the women taking team gold with Emma Stevenson in 6th, Louise Pymm in 8th and Catherine Tinker 10th.
In the men’s race there was individual and team silver, with Mark Couldwell taking 2nd, Peter Swaine 7th, Martin Lewis 17th and Paul Harmer 22nd.
Mark Whitmore took 42nd place, Kevin Lomas 65th and James Morrison 76th
