Charnwood hurdler gets England call-up

Charnwood U20 hurdler Tre Thomas, as a result of his performance at the England U20 Indoor Championships at the weekend, was invited to compete in the home International at Cardiff.  Although not quite repeating his success of two years ago when he won gold he was delighted this time to take silver clocking 7.86secs, just a tenth off his PB of 7.76 secs as he had been struggling with an injury which limited his preparation and caused him to miss the recent Indoor Midland Championships.

Charnwood athletes also competing were U20’s Jody Smith and Victoria Johnson, the Midlands U20 silver medalists in the 60m and 60m hurdles.  Jody Smith had an excellent series of runs in the 60m coming 2nd in his heat and  3rd in his semi final to qualify for the final where he came 6th.  He then returned the next day to contest the 200m where he managed to record an indoor personal best of 22.17secs in the semi final.  Victoria Johnson, competing in her first National Championships as an U20 just missed out on the final of the 60 hurdles by 7 /100ths of a second to record a seasons best time of 8.93 secs.
