Midlands Indoor Champs - Track

Several Charnwood Athletes took part in the recent Midland Indoor Championships.  A much reduced programme was held due to UK Athletics deciding at the last minute to move the British Trials to the N.I.A. on the weekend the Midland Championships were due to be therefore leaving the Midlands with no venue.  A much smaller championships was then arranged at the last minute with just the 60m, 60hurdles and some field events and as a result many of the athletes were unable to compete in their specialist events.

In the hurdles U17 Victoria Johnson continued her fine form winning her heat and final easily to take the gold medal with a PB of 8.68 secs  in the heat.  Also in the medals in the hurdles was David Areetey with a PB of 8.46 secs to get the bronze medal in the U20 event.  In the same event 400m hurdler and last years’ U17 400m national indoor champion Ben Higgins came 4th.     Ben also competed in the 60m along with other Charnwood 400m sprinters U20’s Harriet Cooper, Kyle Calhoun and U17’s Callum Clydesdale and Joe Thorton as there were no championships in that event.   Harriet won a bronze medal and Kyle, Ben and Joe all made the final, Kyle and Joe running PB’s.

In the younger age group U15 Millie Parker ran an excellent series of 60’s with a PB in each round coming second in her heat, second in the semi and sixth in the final.  Unluckiest athlete of the day was U17 Mollie Swann who having been told by an official she had not made the semi final went home only for it to be discovered a mistake had been made and she had qualified.
